The mission of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) is to raise awareness among the various publics about the occupational safety and health risks they are exposed to and how to prevent them. The aim of the Agency is to create safer and healthier workplaces in Europe. The campaigns for healthy working environments are the leading EU-OSHA outreach activities and they deliver a clear message: “Safety and health at work is everyone’s concern. It’s good for you. It’s good for business.”
To reach out to target audiences through events and campaigns for healthy working environments, including the European Week for Safety and Health at Work, as well as many other outreach activities.
The campaign for 2018–2019 entitled Healthy Workplaces Manage Dangerous Substances aimed to raise awareness of the risks posed by hazardous chemicals in the workplace and promote a risk-prevention culture. As part of this campaign, we organised international conferences and symposiums with up to 300 visitors, press conferences and many other outreach activities throughout the year.
We are currently organising projects to promote occupational safety and health in order to foster a culture of safety among young people in Slovenia. A culture of safety must be imparted to young people early to ensure they have a safe start to their careers.
For high school and university students, we are organising viewings of documentaries about occupational safety and health, all of which have received Healthy Workplace Awards at the Leipzig Documentary and Animated Film Festival (DOK Leipzig). These viewings are followed by a discussion with a moderator. Through these viewings, we hope to remind young people of the importance of safety and health in the workplace.
The European ambassador for healthy working environments, a character called Napo, is very helpful in raising awareness among primary school children, explaining important workplace safety and health topics through a series of short cartoons.
89% of respondents believe that EU-OSHA is addressing the right priorities in the area of occupational safety and health, and 87% report that the Agency’s work represents added value to the efforts of national OSH organisations.
